Requesting a Letter of Recommendation

Letters of recommendation are important documents that help others, like me, learn how fantastic you really are. With that said, it is often helpful for me if I know a bit more about your goals, the position/opportunity you are applying for and why you are applying. It just makes it that much easier for me to brag about you!

If you are thinking about requesting a letter from me, please consider the following:

  • What grade(s) did you receive in my class(es)?

  • Have I worked with you on a research project?

  • Am I your advisor?

  • Have you developed a professional connection with me (even if your grades aren't great)?

  • Do you also have a more advanced professor writing a letter for you?

If you think I am the best person to ask for a letter of recommendation, please email me at brs109@polisci.rutgers.edu, stop by my office hours, or schedule an appointment to request a letter. Ideally, requests should be made at least a month in advance.

After I have agreed to write a letter for you, please fill out this form, which provides me with information that will help me make a strong case for you!
